I wrote this feature during the summer of 2014 while I worked as a department editor at Vox magazine, a small city weekly in Columbia, Missouri. On a typical day, I would pitch, edit and write stories about local goings-on and pop culture. I would write cover lines, cutlines and headlines.
“Sasha’s Heart” allowed me to do deeper reporting. It’s a serious story about a former student-athlete with a mental illness and the man who received her heart after she died.
